What is "tainted" USDT

Tainted USDT usually means funds linked to scams, theft or money laundering. Tether, the issuer of USDT, can add an address to the USDT contract blacklist. A blacklisted address can no longer send USDT, so its funds are effectively frozen.

Beyond on-chain freezes, receiving tainted funds can also lead to bank accounts being frozen in some jurisdictions. OTC desks and payment providers are the most commonly affected.

What this tool checks

It calls isBlackListed on the USDT contract on TRON (TR7NHqjeKQxGTCi8q8ZY4pL8otSzgjLj6t) and shows whether the address is currently on Tether's blacklist, along with its USDT and TRX balances.

The result reflects Tether's blacklist only. "Not frozen" does not prove the funds are clean: they may not have been traced yet or may have passed through several hops. Verify the source before large transfers.

If you received tainted USDT

  • Stop moving or splitting the funds so more addresses are not affected
  • Keep the transaction hash, counterparty details, chat logs and payment records
  • Frozen funds are rarely released on a personal request; this usually goes through law enforcement working with Tether
  • Review your intake process: address checks, per-transaction limits and counterparty KYC

Reducing the risk

  • Check the address before every receipt, and the source of funds for large amounts
  • Work with known counterparties and cap amounts for new ones
  • Separate receiving and payout addresses to limit the blast radius
  • Train support and finance staff on phishing and social engineering

FAQ

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Free, no account needed. Your browser queries a public TRON node directly and we do not store the addresses you check.

Which chains are supported?

USDT on TRON (TRC20), the most common USDT network for OTC and payments.

Does "not frozen" mean it is safe?

Not necessarily. The blacklist only covers addresses Tether has already acted on. Judging whether funds are clean requires transaction-path analysis.

Can frozen USDT be released?

Release is up to Tether and usually requires documentation from law enforcement. Personal appeals rarely succeed, so checking before you receive matters more.

We receive funds daily. Is there a more systematic approach?

Yes. We design intake risk controls, wallet tiering and anti-social-engineering training for OTC desks and payment providers. Start with a free consultation.
